PORTLAND, Ore. — A federal judge in Washington, D.C., sentenced a Hillsboro man to 46 months in prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Reed Christensen also faces 36 months of supervised release and $22,000 in fines and restitution.
The 65-year-old was convicted of one felony and seven misdemeanors, including civil disorder and three misdemeanor counts of assaulting, resisting or impeding officers following a jury trial in Sept. 2023.
According to federal prosecutors, the U.S. Army veteran and former Intel employee tried to forcibly remove metal bike rack barriers protecting the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. After being pepper sprayed, Christensen charged several officers, hit and pushed them, prosecutors alleged.
Surveillance footage showed Christensen wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, gray winter parka and yellow leather gloves.
Someone who had known Christensen for years contacted investigators after seeing him on a national news network, prosecutors explained in court records. The witness recognized Christensen’s clothing and knew that the Hillsboro man traveled to Washington, D.C.
In 2022, Christensen was a candidate in the Republican primary for Oregon governor.
