OREGON, USA — A hiker was rescued Wednesday after becoming lost near Wahkeena Falls.
Around 5:30 p.m., the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) received a 911 call from a man, who reported he was visually impaired and became lost on a trail. He told police he was using his phone's flashlight to find his way but could not see the trail markers. His wife, who he had been hiking with, had returned to her car, so he was alone.
A deputy was able to text the man, telling him to stay put, as another deputy located the man's wife at the Multnomah Falls welcome center.
Using the man's cell phone data, deputies were able to get his location. The Green Hornets, a small team that specializes in search and rescue, were deployed at 6:55 p.m. and found the man less than an hour later, at 7:45 p.m.
The man was not hurt, MCSO said, and was able to reunite with his wife at the trailhead.
