TROUTDALE, Ore. – The Troutdale Police Department will dissolve, and the city will enter into a contract for law enforcement services with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

The move is projected to save more than $800,000 a year, while enhancing police patrols in the city of about 16,000 residents.

The city council approved the plan Tuesday night, and the city manager said he expects Multnomah County commissioners to do the same.

Under the negotiated agreement, Troutdale officers would become deputies and earn about $9,000 more in annual salary.

The sheriff's office would provide more supervisory staff for the new force, and more deputies when needed. The contract is expected to take effect July 1.
