GRESHAM, Ore. — The man shot and killed in Gresham Thursday night has been identified as 34-year-old Austin Brand of Damascus, according to a Friday news release from the Gresham Police Department.
The man later identified as Brand was found at around 10 p.m. by officers responding to a disturbance call near a US Market store located in the area of Southeast Orient Drive and Anderson Road. Officers provided first aid but Brand died at the scene.
Brand had been involved in multiple physical confrontations in the area Thursday evening, according to Friday's news release, and he was shot during the final confrontation.
Gresham police and the East County Major Crimes Team are investigating the shooting. Detectives have contacted those involved in the disturbance and shooting and have been collecting evidence and reviewing video of the incident. The case will also reviewed by the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.
"This is a complex investigation," Detective Adam Wright said in a statement. "We are still reviewing the actions of those involved to determine whose actions were criminal and if any were justifiable self-defense."
Detectives believe members of the public in the Damascus area may have had contact with Brand on Thursday evening, police said. Anyone who witnessed one of the disturbances or had contact with Brand is asked to call the Gresham police tip line at 503-618-2719.
