Explosion inside trash bin causes minor damage to Gresham home

A homemade explosive device went off inside an outdoor trash bin on Thursday, July 11, 2024, causing minor damage to a home in Gresham, Ore.

GRESHAM, Ore. — An explosive device went off inside a trash bin outside a home in Gresham early Thursday morning, causing minor damage to the home, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) reported.

The explosion happened in the area of Southeast Pleasant Home Road and Grace Street at around 3:40 a.m., the sheriff's office said. The explosive device was homemade, deputies said. A piece of the device hit the home.

MCSO reported that the explosive device went off near the road. A KGW photographer who visited the scene reported that the explosion happened in an outside trash bin.

Nobody was injured and the explosion did not cause a fire. The sheriff's office said it doesn't believe there's any further threat to the public.

MCSO detectives and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) responded to the investigate. The investigation is ongoing, MCSO said.
