Fire breaks out at McMenamins Grand Lodge in Forest Grove

The blaze did not spread to the hotel, as the garage was not attached to the main building.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Forest Grove Fire & Rescue contained a destructive blaze at the McMenamins Grand Lodge on Friday night.

Crews were called to the property on Pacific Avenue just before 6 p.m. The fire was reported in the garage, which is not attached to the main building. The building — which was used to store tables, chairs and other landscaping materials — was 100 feet away from the hotel. It was also next to a retirement apartment building, which was undamaged by the heat.

"Reports started streaming in from the restaurant, the hotel as well," said Matt Johnston with Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, adding that people driving by the hotel also spotted the fire.

Flames reached up to nearly 30 feet high, and firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze. Firefighters deployed several hose lines to extinguish the flames, while also keeping the nearby fuel tank cool, preventing a larger fire or potentially an explosion.

Grand Lodge employees had evacuated hotel and restaurant guests out of the main building as a precaution, then let them back inside shortly after. There were no injuries reported, Johnston said.

Though there were reports of chickens were in the garage, their coop was a safe distance away, according to Forest Fire Grove & Rescue.

Though the fire did not spread to the hotel, the garage and its contents were destroyed.

There is no word on the cause of the fire at this time.
