PORTLAND, Ore. — The Burgerville restaurant at Southeast 92nd Avenue and Powell Boulevard in Portland was damaged by a fire early Wednesday morning, according to social media posts from Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R).

The fire caused at least $50,000 in damages, according to PF&R spokesperson Rick Graves. He said that amount "could move north if there is equipment that needs to be professionally cleaned."

The fire began in a dumpster outside the restaurant but spread into the building, getting into the attic space and through the roof, according to PF&R. The fire department said it was beginning to attack the fire just before 5 a.m., then said in another post at 5:17 a.m. that the blaze was under control and crews were checking the attic for any remaining pockets of fire.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, PF&R said.

The extent of the damage to the building was not immediately clear. Photos posted by the fire department show fire damage to the walls and roof structure in the corner nearest the dumpster enclosure, but the rest of the building appears intact in the photos.

Burgerville CEO Ed Casey said in a statement Wednesday morning that the company is cooperating with Portland Fire & Rescue to determine the cause of the fire. He encouraged customers to look up alternate restaurant locations on the chain's website.

"Due to the damage caused, this location will be closed until further notice," he said. "We are working on a labor plan to minimize the impact on our employees and guests."

The 92nd Avenue location previous closed down in August 2021 due to what the company described as deteriorating conditions in the surrounding area and an increase in crime and vandalism. A handful of other locations were already shuttered at the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company announced in November 2021 that it had reopened two of the closed locations and planned to bring back the rest by the end of that year, including the 92nd Avenue restaurant.
