PORTLAND, Ore. — A fatal crash Wednesday morning prompted the closure of a section of Northeast Columbia Boulevard in Portland's Concordia neighborhood, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau.

Police responded just after 9 a.m. to a report of a crash along Columbia Boulevard, a short distance east of the interchange with Northeast 33rd Avenue. Officers found a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole, according to the news release.

The woman driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other occupants or reported injuries. Utility services were not disrupted, police said.

The PPB Traffic Division Major Crash Team responded to the scene for an investigation. Columbia Boulevard was closed between 33rd Avenue and Northeast 47th Avenue while the investigation was in progress.

Police announced shortly after 1 p.m. that Columbia had reopened to traffic, but an investigation into the fatal crash is still ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to email crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 24-131890.

The incident marks Portland's 21st fatal crash investigation so far this year, according to the news release, although PPB added that its own count may be higher than the tally counted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which excludes some kinds of crashes such as crashes on private property or caused by medical events.
