NORTH POWDER, Ore. — A driver and several cows died Tuesday when a semitrailer crashed on Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon.
Oregon State Police said the semi, which was hauling cattle, was driving west when it hit a guardrail and flipped over. The driver, Shannon Dwinell,46, of Great Bend, Kan. in the crash. Five cows also died.
Some of the cows escaped and were roaming the freeway, police said.
The crash happened about two miles west of North Powder, between La Grande and Baker City.
All lanes of Interstate 84 between Pendleton and Baker City have reopened.
