Boardman 18-year-old drowns in Columbia River

Authorities say a teenager from Boardman has drowned in the Columbia River.

BOARDMAN, Ore. (AP) - Authorities say a teenager from Boardman has drowned in the Columbia River.

The East Oregonian reports 18-year-old Gavin Ryce Roberts drowned on Friday near the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge in the McCormack Slough.

The Morrow County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting the drowning at 3:53 a.m.

Numerous agencies launched boats and a dive rescue team recovered the body. The incident remains under investigation.

Roberts was a 2015 graduate of Riverside High School in Boardman.

It was the second drowning death this summer in the same stretch of water.
