Former NBA player dies in vehicle crash in Portland area

Drew Gordon is the older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon.

CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. — Drew Gordon, a former NBA player, died in a crash Thursday afternoon in unincorporated Clackamas County

The 33-year-old is the older brother of Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon. He played college basketball at UCLA and New Mexico. He also played nine games for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014-2015 season, and played pro basketball overseas. Drew Gordon was a native of San Jose, California, and lived in Damascus, Oregon, according to his agent.

The crash involved two vehicles on South Springwater Road near South Stevens Road shortly after 1 p.m., according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office. Drew Gordon was driving a Vanderhall Carmel three-wheeled autocycle. According to a preliminary investigation, he crossed over the center line and hit a GMC Sierra pickup truck. Drew Gordon died at the scene.

Deputies said the driver of the pickup truck and a passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Philadelphia 76ers reacted to Drew Gordon's death on social media, saying "We send our condolences to the Gordon family and their friends."

The Denver Nuggets said their organization is devastated.

"Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will forever live on through his three beautiful children and all of his loved ones," the Denver Nuggets said on X. "Our hearts are with Aaron and the Gordon family during this extremely difficult time."

Both UCLA Men's Basketball and New Mexico Men's Basketball also shared their condolences. 

"Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Drew Gordon, a former UCLA forward who passed away at the age of 33," UCLA Men's Basketball said on social media.

New Mexico Men's Basketball said, "We are heartbroken over the passing of Drew Gordon. A two-time all-conference forward, he helped lead us to the 2012 Mountain West title."

The crash is under investigation. Currently, impairment does not appear to be a factor, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
