PORTLAND, Ore. — 'Tis the season of giving and KGW is making it easy for you to give this year with the KGW Great Toy Drive. Donate online or at more than 450 different collection sites throughout the state.
More than 300 businesses have signed on to become collection sites, 75 more community partners than last year.
One of those partners is Family Fun RV. The reason they signed up is right in their name.
“We are a very family-oriented business. We definitely treat all of our customers and the surrounding neighborhood like family,” Family Fun RV Assistant General Manager Shane Carlson said.
It is the only female-owned and operated RV dealer in the state and owner Heather Harrison puts family at the top of the list.
“She really makes it a family feel to the place and always makes sure that our families are put first,” Carlson said.
That is why they joined the KGW Great Toy drive as a collection site again this year. They want to help bring toys to local families who may not have presents under the tree.
“To make sure they have something to open on Christmas is definitely an amazing thing,” Carlson said.
Family Fun RV is bringing their sales into to mix to help add even more toys to local kids. For every RV they sell between now and the end of the toy drive, Family Fun RV will donate 10 additional toys to the KGW Great Toy Drive.
Toys will go to 127 area nonprofits, reaching thousands of kids this holiday season.
Many of the employees at Family Fun RV can relate to the kids who'll receive the donations, Carlson said.
“We're all working-class families and we all came from families where this kind of stuff would have been needed when we were kids as well,” he said. “To be able to give back to the ones who need it the most is definitely a great thing.”
