HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. -- Getting them groomed and ready to go. The horses bring a little bit of western country culture to the Clackamas Town Center for the busy holiday shopping season.
This is the 20th year that the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Posse has patrolled the mall parking lot. It’s a little added security on horseback.
“We hope so, and it does put us up another six feet above and then the clip clop of the shoes on the horses, they can hear us coming,” said longtime Sheriff’s Posse volunteer Mike Hattan.
The first time out this year, a half dozen posse volunteers and their horse are keeping moving. But any chance they can, they will stop and talk with shoppers because this is as much about connecting with the community as anything else. Kids are often attracted to the horses.
“It’s just a good positive holiday feeling if you want, for us to get out and see the public and for them to see our horses and talk to them. So many of them have never been close to a horse before. We find that out year after year and it’s just great,” said Hattan.
If you want to see the horses and riders of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Posse they’ll be at Clackamas Town Center every weekend right up until Christmas; their last day is Saturday, Dec. 23.
