MILWAUKIE, Ore. – A Clackamas County sheriff's deputy was injured when a fleeing suspect crashed into his patrol car Monday, police said.

The deputy was working with other officers and doing a special maneuver, to try and stop a car theft suspect, when the crash occurred. It happened just after 6 p.m., near the intersection of McLoughlin Boulevard and Southeast Vineyard Road.

Both the deputy and the suspect suffered minor injuries in the crash. They were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

A woman inside the suspect’s vehicle was also arrested at the scene, police said.

The deputy had been responding to reports of two recent vehicle thefts in Clackamas County.

A pickup truck was stolen from an area resident who said he confronted the thief and dragged him out of his truck. But he said the man was accompanied by a woman who managed to drive off in the truck, only to crash into a nearby pole. Then, both suspects got away.

A short time later, two people matching the description stole a vehicle from a car sales lot. Milwaukie police attempted to stop that vehicle, but the driver sped away.

A chase ensued, until the suspect eventually crashed into the deputy's patrol car and was captured.

The Oregon State Police responded to investigate the crash. No names have been released at this time.
