Person shot and killed by Clackamas County deputy during traffic stop

According to CCSO, the fatal shooting happened on Sept. 27 around 2 a.m. near Southeast 145th Avenue and Southeast King Road.

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. — A Clackamas County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) deputy shot and killed a person during a traffic stop in Happy Valley early Monday morning.

According to CCSO, the fatal shooting happened on Sept. 27 around 2 a.m. near Southeast 145th Avenue and Southeast King Road

According to CCSO, deputies attempted to stop a white Ford Ranger pick-up truck by turning on the lights and sirens of their patrol cars. The truck did not stop and turned down a path with no outlet. Deputies put down spike strips to stop the truck but it continued to drive with flat tires.

CCSO deputies were able to stop the trick at SE 145th and SE Ridgecrest. Authorities attempted to take the driver, identified as Nathan Honeycutt, 26, but he resisted.

Honeycutt produced a revolver and was shot by a deputy. He died on scene.

A deputy sustained a minor hand injury and has been discharged from the hospital. CCSO said the following deputies were involved and have been placed on leave as is protocol:

Deputy Jansen Bento, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, employed since February 2019.

Deputy Sam Tharpe, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, employed since September 2017. 

Deputy Matt Roach, Clackamas County Sheriff’s office, employed since September 2014.
