PORTLAND, Ore. — An elderly man fell approximately 40 feet over a cliff near the base of Sahalie Falls in Central Oregon on Wednesday morning.
The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries but was unable to walk and was "extremely cold" due to being so close the falls, the Sweet Home Fire District said in a Facebook post. Lane and Linn County Search and Rescue teams assisted with the rescue that involved rope systems to lift the man up the cliff, where he was then carried approximately half a mile back to the parking lot.

Due to his condition, a Life Flight was called to transport the man to Riverbend Hospital, according to Sweet Home Fire District. Highway 126 was temporarily closed to allow the helicopter to land.
