PORTLAND, Ore. — A once-popular resort that drew visitors to Central Oregon for decades is slated to reopen in a matter of weeks. Kah-Nee-Ta Hot Springs Resort announced it will reopen in mid-July, but an exact date has not yet been released.

The resort teased the update in a Facebook post on Wednesday, saying, "Join us in mid-July for the revitalized experience of a lifetime!" Kah-Nee-Ta's website, as of Thursday afternoon, says it will reopen in summer 2024.

In recent months, Kah-Nee-Ta has shared photos and renovation updates on Facebook, including remodeled hotel rooms along with new, hand-painted teepees and private soaking tubs.

Kah-Nee-Ta is located on the Warm Springs Reservation in Central Oregon, just over two hours away from Portland. First opened in the 1960s, the resort features an Olympic-size hot spring swimming pool, a lodge, spa, hotel and RV park.

Following financial and maintenance problems, the resort closed in 2018 and laid off all 146 employees. In 2022, the Tribal Council for the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs approved $4.58 million in funding to expand and bring Kah-Nee-Ta back to life. That same year, the resort had announced plans to reopen in 2023 and expand its hot spring swimming pools and lodging areas.

KGW reached out to Kah-Nee-Ta for more information about their reopening plans and have not heard back, as of Thursday afternoon.
