PORTLAND, Ore. — A man suffered only minor injuries after driving off the Interstate 5 south and falling 80 feet into the side of a building early Saturday morning, Portland Fire & Rescue said (PF&R).
Portland Police officers, PF&R and AMR responded to the traffic collision at 12:33 a.m., discovering that a white BMV had run off the Interstate 5 southbound to the Interstate 84 eastbound bridge.
The car had been taking the ramp from I-5's Water Avenue exit at Yamhill when the driver lost control. While the car was falling over the side, it sheared off a light pole, and landed roughly 100 feet onto Water Avenue, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). The light pole landed on the Morrison Bridge viaduct.
PBB said that "extreme speed and alcohol impairment" are believed to be factors of the crash.
The car, which was on fire, was extinguished, and the driver was pulled out, then transported to the hospital with minor injuries, PPB said.
