PORTLAND, Ore. — A car crashed near the front entrance of the Salty's seafood restaurant in Northeast Portland Friday morning, damaging part of the carport that extends over the passenger loading area.

A large carport awning extends out from the building and over the driveway, supported by two wooden columns on the far side. Photos taken at the scene show that the car apparently mounted the surrounding curb and crashed into one of the columns, dislodging it at the base and snapping the wood at the top.

However, the rest of the roof structure still appears to be standing normally in the photos. Staff cleaning up debris told KGW that they hoped to still open the restaurant at its usual noon opening time on Friday.

The circumstances of the crash were not immediately clear; photos at the scene didn't appear to show any other cars involved. Restaurant staff said the driver of the car left the scene.

The Salty's restaurant in Portland, officially called Salty's on the Columbia River, is one of three Pacific Northwest restaurants operated by the company; the other two locations are in Seattle and Redondo, Wash., although the company's website says the latter is currently closed.

This is a developing story and will be updated if more information becomes available.
