PORTLAND, Ore. — Three people were taken to the hospital after a vehicle crashed into a building and caught on fire in North Portland early Wednesday morning.
Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a report of a fire around 2:30 a.m. Firefighters found a vehicle that had crashed into a three-story building about a block away from Kenton Church, which is off of North Lombard Street. The vehicle caught on fire and the flames appeared to be spreading to the building, according to Portland Fire & Rescue. Crews were able to put the fire out and the situation was considered under control at 2:50 a.m.
Three people who were inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital. Two of them were entered into the medial trauma system because of the extent of their injuries, Portland Fire & Rescue said. The other person had moderate injuries. No one else was hurt.
Firefighters searched the building and found no fire inside, but some light smoke in the upper levels, which are office spaces. No one was inside at the time. The vehicle crashed into the building through a large window, which only damaged the wall below the window and didn't impact the building's structural stability, Portland Fire & Rescue.
The agency did not release any information surrounding the cause of the crash.
