PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Fire and Rescue responded to a fire on the northeast side of Rocky Butte Wednesday afternoon, which affected traffic at the I-205/I-84 interchange.

Crews were dispatched just before 1 p.m. Officials say the fire was burning "mid-slope," making it difficult to initially access the blaze.

Firefighters were able to stretch hoses and get water on the fire from up above, Portland Fire and Rescue said on social media. Crews were able to control the flames in about one hour. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

The fire also caused the right lane of I-205 Southbound to shut down as crews worked to battle the fire, according to ODOT. All lanes have reopened.

The brush fire occurred one day after the city of Portland instituted a burn ban, effective immediately. Portland Fire and Rescue issued the ban due to forecasted high temperatures, limited rainfall and ongoing dry conditions.

Multiple Portland-area counties have also enacted burn bans, including Multnomah County, Clackamas County and Washington County.

The ban will stay in effect through the summer weather season.

Portland will also be under an Excessive Heat Warning starting this Thursday through Sunday, as temperatures are expected to surpass 100 degrees on multiple days.
