TILLAMOOK, Ore. -- A Beaverton woman died in a four-car crash on Highway 6 near Tillamook Friday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. when a 2004 Honda Element, driven by Carl S. Peterson, 49, of Portland, was traveling eastbound through road construction near milepost 25. Peterson crossed the center line and struck three stopped westbound cars, according to state trooper John King.
Joyce K. Hamreus, 64, was standing outside her car, which was stopped because of the construction, when Peterson's Honda hit her and her car, according to Oregon State Police.
Hamreus suffered critical injuries and died while being taken to a hospital, police said.
After striking Hamreus and her car, Peterson then struck a Lincoln MKZ driven by Mary E. Lovell, 55, of Tillamook, according to police. The impact of the collision pushed Lovell's Lincoln into a BMW Sedan, driven by Frederick C. Adami, 45, of Madison, N.H.
Lovell was taken to a hospital for treatment to minor injuries, police said.
An investigation is underway.
