At least 5 units damaged in apartment fire near Lloyd Center

Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to the fire at 12:23 a.m. in an apartment complex near Northeast Schuyler Street.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A fire early Sunday morning at an apartment northeast of Lloyd Center left at least five units damaged, Portland Fire & Rescue said.

Fire crews responded at 12:23 a.m. to reports of a fire in a dumpster between two buildings at 1923 Northeast Schuyler Street.

Crews arrived to find the dumpster, flanked by two two-story apartment buildings on both sides. The fire had traveled up the siding and into the attic space of both buildings.

Fire officials said that by cutting multiple roof holes, they were able to limit fire damage to only a few units.  At least five units are now uninhabitable, they said.

No occupants were injured, but several were displaced, fire officials said. Red Cross is working with the residents who need help.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Fire officials note that while crews were still working to put out hot spots, a shooting happened nearby, in the area of Northeast 15th Avenue and Broadway.

Portland Fire released an engine at the fire to provide medical aid to the shooting victim. The victim was taken to the hospital.
