PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Oregon Zoo is now home to Chupacabra.
No, not the scary creature you've heard in folk tales. This is actually a Patagonian mara who the zoo named Chupacabra.
He was found roaming the streets of Eugene last month, but he was moved to the zoo because he needs special care. The extra large, long-legged rodent is native to Argentina.
Zoo officials say Chupacabra is already making himself at home. He ran out of his cage and started exploring right away.
And unlike the blood-thirsty legendary creature, this Chupacabra is actually a vegetarian.
Right now, Chupacabra is in a quarantine area for 30 days but officials said he will become one of the zoo's ambassador animals.
