CORVALLIS, Ore. — Multiple people reported seeing a black bear in various locations across Corvallis on Sunday morning, the Corvallis Police Department reported.
The bear was first spotted around 3 a.m. It was seen in central and west Corvallis, at the Linn-Benton Community College campus and then near the Oregon State University dairy fields as it wandered out of town around 8 a.m., police said.
Police said anyone who sees the bear should stay away from it.
"It is crucial not to approach or interact with it," police said. "Instead, seek shelter indoors or retreat to your vehicle with your children and pets until the bear moves on."
The bear is likely trying to get back to its natural habitat, police said, and people should give it space to do so.
Corvallis police said it's monitoring the situation in conjunction with Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW).
"In the unlikely event that the bear becomes stranded or exhibits concerning behavior," ODFW will respond and evaluate the situation, police said.
Corvallis police captured multiple images of the bear and shared them with the public on social media.
