ALOHA, Ore. — Fire ripped through an Aloha duplex Friday afternoon, displacing several people. The fire left one renter and his three children, ages nine to 16 without a home.
Mark Miner was at work when the fire started, his two youngest kids and their dog were home at the time and made it out safely.
“Don't know what happened, everything went up so fast,” said Miner.
Miner’s oldest son, Noah, a standout wrestler at Aloha High School was at a wrestling tournament in Utah at the time.
“I’m super grateful, very happy that they didn't get hurt,” said Noah.
Miner said the family’s home is now uninhabitable.
“Life changes really fast,” said Miner. “Ten minutes go by and can rip down 14 years of life.”
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue tells KGW they haven’t yet determined the cause of the fire. Miner said everything inside the home was destroyed, and he doesn't have renters insurance.
“I pinch pennies everywhere I can," said Miner. "Three kids by myself, it's hard. You don't expect anything like this to ever happen.”
Miner’s co-worker started a GoFundMe to help the family get back on their feet.
“It's a big blessing, that's for sure," said Miner. “I need a roof for me and my kids, that's about it. Everything else can come and go.”
