6 more deaths, 49 new cases of COVID-19 in Oregon

The State of Oregon announced on Friday that 6 more people have died from COVID-19.

The State of Oregon announced six more COVID-19 deaths and 49 new positive cases on Friday.

The additional six deaths bring Oregon's death toll to 70 people. A total of 1,785 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.

OHA released information on the latest deaths:

  • Oregon’s 65th COVID-19 death was an 88-year-old woman in Clackamas County, who tested positive on April 15 and died April 16 at Adventist Medical Center. She had underlying medical conditions.
  • Oregon’s 66th COVID-19 death was a 95-year-old man in Linn County, who tested positive on April 2 and died April 14 at his residence. He had underlying medical conditions.
  • Oregon’s 67th COVID-19 death was an 86-year-old man in Linn County, who tested positive on April 6 and died April 15 at his residence. He had underlying medical conditions.
  • Oregon’s 68th COVID-19 death was a 65-year-old woman in Marion County, who tested positive on March 26 and died April 6 at Salem Hospital. She had underlying medical conditions.
  • Oregon’s 69th COVID-19 death was a 91-year-old woman in Marion County, who tested positive on April 12 and died April 16 at her residence. She had underlying medical conditions.
  • Oregon’s 70th COVID-19 death was a 76-year-old woman in Multnomah County, who tested positive on April 7 and died April 11 at Adventist Medical Center. She had underlying medical conditions.

The state has completed a total of 36,321 tests and 34,556 people have tested negative. Currently, there are 18 tests pending results.

COVID-like visits to the emergency room in Oregon are dwindling and still make up only a small portion of overall emergency room visits.

The majority of people who have contracted the illness in Oregon have not been hospitalized. The state said in an update that 24% of patients who contracted COVID-19 were hospitalized.

A look at Oregon’s curve shows a decreasing amount of people with the virus suggesting that Oregon’s stay home order is having the intended effect.

The stay home order is still in effect and the CDC is still asking that people wear cloth masks while out in public if they need to access essential services like grocery stores.
