PORTLAND, Ore. — A person has been hospitalized "with significant injuries" after a collision between a car and a MAX train Sunday afternoon.
Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) said around 3 p.m. that it was responding to the scene of Northeast 108th Avenue and East Burnside Street, with an extrication process underway involving a car on its roof with an occupant inside.
The person, who has not been identified, was extricated and transported to a hospital.
In the crash, the MAX car suffered damages that were preventing rescue crews from removing the electrical connection from an overhead power wire, and remained energized.
Crews on the scene made a request for a second ambulance.
There were reports of a person on the MAX car with "difficulties walking," and a plan was being made to extricate them as well. Their current condition is unknown at this time.
