EUGENE -- The family of writer Ken Kesey is reviving plans to restore his original psychedelic bus -- Furthur -- in time for it to take part in the 50th anniversary of its LSD-fueled trip across America.
Stephanie Kesey said Friday she has created a foundation to raise money for the restoration as a tribute to her late father-in-law.
Ken Kesey bought the 1939 International school bus in 1964 and loaded it with his friends and a jug of LSD-laced juice, then set out across America for the World's Fair in New York.
The bus sat for years in swampy woods on the Kesey farm in Oregon before the family decided to restore it following Kesey's death.
Stephanie Kesey says problems delayed the project several years, but it is back on track.
