PORTLAND, Ore. — A 34-year-old Portland pharmacist is accused of placing a hidden camera inside a bathroom at his workplace, allegedly recording dozens of his co-workers.
Court documents allege Johnny Tuck Chee Chan placed the camera inside a bathroom at the Kaiser Permanente lab and supply center in Northeast Portland.
The facility, which is located in the 5700 block of NE 138th Avenue, is not open to the public.
Chan was fired when the hidden camera was found by a Kaiser employee in November 2017.
Officials say he's accused of filming 51 people -- including one child -- from December 2016 to November 2017.
Chan was indicted earlier this month and charged with 7 counts of encouraging child sex abuse and 64 counts of invasion of privacy.
He was booked into Multnomah County Jail Monday, and released on bail. In his first court appearance Tuesday, Chan pleaded not guilty.
He's due back in court on Jan. 14, 2019. His lawyer released the following statement: “Mr. Chan is presumed to be innocent. He has entered a not guilty plea and nothing has been proven.”
A spokesperson from Kaiser said Chan was dismissed about a year ago when the allegations first surfaced:
"We discovered a camera in a unisex bathroom at our Airport Way Center pharmacy supply and lab in November 2017. This is not a patient care facility and the bathroom was used primarily by employees. We notified Portland Police and collaborated with them on an investigation, through which we identified an employee suspect. We terminated the employee immediately. All inquiries regarding this matter should be directed to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office."
