PORTLAND -- Kaine Horman will retain full custody of his 5-year-old daughter Kiara, a judge ruled Tuesday. The girl's mother, Terri Moulton Horman, will eventually be allowed to have supervised visits.
The custody case gained national attention because it revolves around the disappearance of Kaine's son, Kyron Horman.

Terri, Kyron's stepmother, was reportedly the last person to see him before he disappeared from Portland's Skyline Elementary School on June 4, 2010. Kaine Horman has had sole custody of their daughter Kiara since later that month, when he filed a restraining order against his estranged wife.
During the custody proceedings, Kaine's attorneys brought up an alleged murder-for-hire plot as one of the key reasons why Terri should not have contact with Kiara.
Terri's attorney argued that Kaine had shown no evidence that should keep her away from the child and that Terri should have frequent and continuing contact with Kiara.
The judgment issued Wednesday determined that Terri Horman can initiate contact with Kiara through the exchange of cards and letters. Terri must participate in parent training with a knowledgeable instructor before she can be reunited with Kiara.
Kiara must also be enrolled in counseling to address issues including the reconciliation with her mother and the status of Kyron's disappearance.
I believe where we are today is still keeping my daughter safe, that status quo is still maintained, so I think we are doing what we need to be doing, Kaine told KGW Wednesday.
The Hormans' marriage was officially dissolved in December of 2013.

As outlined in the custody agreement, Terri is not allowed to enter Kaine's home or workplace, or Kiara's school. Terri and Kaine also cannot knowingly be within 150 feet of one another.
Police investigated Terri after Kyron disappeared, but she was never arrested.
