PORTLAND, Ore — They say it takes a village to raise a child.
As part of our year-long series “Inside Woodlawn," we spent some time with a very fun part of the Woodlawn village: the lunch ladies.
Woodlawn cafeteria workers, Debbie Sukkau, Veronica Duczek and Naoko Mori, work hard to make sure school lunch is nutritious and fun.
"We want this to be the best part of their day. That’s what makes us do what we do every day. It’s for the kids because we love them. They’re our family," said Sukkau.
"I like seeing the kids’ faces when they get a food that they’ve never tried before," said Duczek.
Woodlawn recently celebrated National School Lunch week and Duczek made short videos featuring food and the ladies singing to post on the school’s Facebook page every day.
"They are funny, our kitchen staff is amazing. They are full of personality, they have lots of ideas on ways to connect. They are a great part of our team here," said principal Andrea Porter-Lopez.
