Oregon Food Bank warns recipients of nut butter recall

The Oregon Food Bank is warning its recipients about a voluntary recall of peanut butter and almond butter due to potential salmonella contamination.
The recalled products are in pint-sized glass jars with white labels like the almond butter seen here.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon Food Bank warned recipients that they may have received peanut butter and almond butter voluntarily recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration identified the potential contamination during routine tests.

The affected products are in pint-sized glass jars with white labels listing the ingredients and best by dates on the lid. The label also says "distributed by Oregon Food Bank."

The food bank says all products with a best by date of July 21, 2015 or earlier should be thrown away.

"We are concerned about the health and safety of the people we serve," said Susannah Morgan, CEO of Oregon Food Bank. "All 21 regional food banks have been alerted to this recall. In turn, they are notifying their local partner agencies."

The food bank said recipients may have received peanut butter and almond butter included in the nSPIRED Natural Foods, Inc. recall. Affected products include certain Arrowhead Mills Peanut Butters, MaraNatha Almond Butters and Peanut Butters and specific private label nut butters packaged for Safeway, Kroger, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.
