Update: 26 workers at Oregon seafood processing plant test positive for COVID-19

Bornstein Seafood’s entire workforce is being tested for the virus while its Astoria facilities are shut down.

ASTORIA, Ore. — UPDATE: All 200 workers at the plant have been tested, and 26 of them have tested positive, according to The Daily Astorian.

Original story below:

An Oregon seafood company has closed its facilities in Astoria after at least 13 workers tested positive for COVID-19.

Thirty-five Bornstein Seafood employees were tested for COVID-19 on Saturday after showing symptoms of the coronavirus, according to a company news release, and vice president Andrew Bornstein on Monday told KGW that at least 13 workers have tested positive.

“At this time our two Astoria seafood plants have been shut down, and we are working hand in hand with county health officials to increase testing and implement contact tracing,” Bornstein said in an email to KGW. “We are advising all of our employees to self-isolate and quarantine as advised by Public Health until further notice and guidance.”

Clatsop County health officials went to the company's Astoria seafood processing facility over two weeks ago to advise workers how to do their jobs while keeping distance from one another, Bornstein said.

Now, the company’s entire workforce is being tested for the virus.

Bornstein Seafood first notified the county health department on May 1 that one of its employees tested positive.
