PORTLAND, Ore. — Boy Scout camp looked a little different this year. Instead of pitching a tent in the woods, the Boy Scouts did a day-long Facebook live "virtual" camping event. Scouts from all over the country took part and the Portland area played a big role.
“Out of the entire country, Portland got picked to be the host of the digital campfire and we are so excited," said Claire Osterman of the Cascade Pacific Council.
Scouts sent in their skits and songs and they were put together into an hour-long program that closed out the camp-in.
The Boy Scouts have had to get creative to keep people engaged. They do virtual meetings every week and there might even be some new badges related to what the scouts are dealing with right now.
Osterman said “this can definitely be a really isolating time when we all have to stay home especially since it's lasted many weeks, scouting through this entire time has been a community people can count on.”
Through the camp-in, the Boy Scouts found a way to keep families engaged and have some fun.
