The Oregon Food Bank will receive $8 million from the state of Oregon to assist families in need during the coronavirus outbreak, the office of Gov. Kate Brown announced Monday.

Oregon will make weekly payments to the non-profit for two months. The state is expecting a 75% reimbursement from FEMA for the effort.

The contribution from the state is critical. Donations to the Oregon Food Bank from commercial business are down significantly because of the various financial impacts of the virus.

"In times of crisis, no Oregonian should need to wonder where they can find food for their family, Gov. Brown said in a prepared statement. "I know many Oregonians, through no fault of their own, have lost their jobs and incomes due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Oregon Food Bank Network is a vital resource for families in need."
