2 more deaths, 59 new COVID-19 cases in Oregon

In total, 72 people have died from COVID-19 in Oregon, according to OHA.

The Oregon Health Authority announced two more deaths and 59 new cases in the state on Saturday.

The two additional deaths bring the total to 72 people who have died from COVID-19 in Oregon and the total positive cases to 1,844.

The new cases were found in the following counties:

  • Clackamas (1)
  • Curry (1)
  • Deschutes (2)
  • Jackson (1)
  • Klamath (2)
  • Linn (2)
  • Marion (18)
  • Multnomah (26)
  • Polk (1)
  • Umatilla (2)
  • Washington (4)

The two newly reported deaths were men with underlying health conditions, according to OHA.

  • Oregon’s 71st COVID-19 death was a 62-year-old man in Clackamas County, who tested positive on April 2 and died on April 16 at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center. He had underlying medical conditions.
  • Oregon’s 72nd COVID-19 death was an 84-year-old man in Marion County, who tested positive on April 2 and died on April 17 at Salem Hospital. He had underlying medical conditions.

Testing in Oregon is being done with the help of private and hospital labs as well as the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory. As of April 17, Oregon’s positive testing result has remained fairly consistent at about 5% of tests performed. The national average is 17.6%.

Data has shown that Oregon's social distancing and stay home initiatives are working to reduce the number of COVID-like visits to the emergency room.
