EUGENE, Ore. -- An Oregon man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after a jury convicted him of manslaughter and drunken driving in the deaths of two friends.
The Register-Guard reports that 28-year-old Tyler Clayton Davis of Florence apologized for the Sept. 18 crash at his sentencing Tuesday in Lane County Circuit Court.
But LaRee Thornton, the mother of his close friend, Joshua Thornton, told Davis in court that what he did was "unforgivable."
The 26-year-old Thornton and 24-year-old Nicholas Schneider, both of Reedsport, were killed when Davis's pickup overturned.
Judge Charles Zennache noted that Florence police warned Davis outside a local tavern shortly before the crash that he was too drunk to drive.
