PORTLAND -- A Eugene man was sentenced to nearly 16 years in prison for the sex trafficking of two minors, the Dept. of Justice announced Thursday.

Stanley Mack Spriggs Jr., 28, pleaded guilty in October, 2011, to the charges. He was sentenced to 188 months in federal prison Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Anna J. Brown. He was also sentenced to five years of supervised release and ordered to pay $23,204 in restitution to the victims.

During a 2008 investigation, agents tied Spriggs to more than 100 women and children in the Eugene area working as prostitutes and posting sex ads online at Craigslist.com.

The current federal indictment alleges that Spriggs and his co-defendants were involved in a conspiracy to recruit, entice, and provide two minor victims to engage in commercial sex acts for money, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Kemp Strickland.

The defendant and others would take photographs of the minors that were used in advertisements, Strickland added. Spriggs rented hotel rooms and drove the minors to the homes or places of customers who paid money to engage in sexual acts with the minors.

Spriggs was aware that the victims were minors, Strickland said. He provided them with false identification in case they were contacted by police. He also prohibited them from contacting family or friends.

He would not let me out of his sight, one victim said. I was not allowed to be more than an arm s length away.

This defendant sexually exploited two young girls for his own financial gain, said U.S. Attorney Amanda Marshall. His actions were deplorable and the 188 month sentence imposed by the court goes a long way towards achieving justice for these two young women.
