Oregon school district hit with possible cyberattack; campuses closed for rest of the week

The Central School District 13J sent out an alert to parents, saying on Wednesday, they became aware of "unusual activity within our computer network."

INDEPENDENCE, Ore. — School is canceled for the rest of the week in the Independence and Monmouth area over what Central School District officials said might be a cyberattack.

The Central School District 13J sent out an alert to parents, saying on Wednesday, they became aware of "unusual activity within our computer network." School is closed for Thursday and Friday, as well as Expanded Learning Opportunity activities.

The district said they contacted independent cybersecurity experts, as well as local, state and federal authorities. In the meantime, they said, some systems and data are temporarily inaccessible and do not know when they'll be back.

Grab and Go breakfasts and lunches will still be available from 10 to 11 a.m. CHS extracurricular activities, including athletics practices and games, will go on, the district said.

There is no information on if any data was stolen.
