Molalla River School District closed Friday due to reported social threats

In a letter that went out on Thursday, the district said they have partnered with the Molalla Police Department in regards to assessing and addressing the threat.

On Thursday, officials in the Molalla River School District partnered with the Molalla Police Department in making the decision to cancel classes Friday. It's due to reported social media threats, according to a letter to the district community from the superintendent. The district is working with police to assess and address the threat.

The district said a social media post circulating online on Wednesday said, “Your next Molalla river middle school September 26/27” and contained lime green emoji guns. A student came forward and shared the picture with a teacher Wednesday morning. The district shared the image with Molalla police.

After investigating, one Molalla River Middle School student was taken into custody, according to the Molalla River School District.

An email was sent out Wednesday to parents before students were released, addressing the concerning social threat which prompted the decision to cancel classes on Friday.
