OREGON CITY, Ore. - The term "math whiz" applies to four Holcomb Elementary students who handle fractions and formulas like they are in high school.

They will compete at the "Math is Cool" Masters competition in Moses Lake, Wash. on May 16.

"We work really hard and listen to our coaches," fourth grader Leila Goodwin explained. "And we've been blessed with academic minds."

What doesn't add up is the budget to make the trip.

"We figure we need about two thousand dollars total and some of the families just can't afford it," said Siri Anderson, a teacher and math coach at the Oregon City school.

The team known as the "Holcomb Math Heroes" set up a GoFundMe page and they are organizing fundraisers at the school.

"We'll get there," Anderson remarked."And they'll be well prepared and ready to go."
