OREGON CITY, Ore. -- Plans have been canceled for a new development on the property where a murdered Oregon City girl s remains were found in 2002.
Ward Weaver killed 12-year-old Ashley Pond and 13-year-old Miranda Gaddis and investigators found them at the house where he lived. Now an empty lot, the group Central City Concern was planning to build a 40-unit apartment complex for recovering addicts there.
Ultimately, the effort did not qualify for state funding, to the development plans were canceled, as first reported by The Oregonian.
Gaddis' sister Miriah Gillett had gathered signatures to try and stop the new development.
However, Gaddis' and Gillett's mother Michelle Duffey said she had hoped the development would move forward.
The developers said families of recovering addicts will benefit from the new complex.
