Surveillance video captures woman begging for help after escaping alleged kidnapper

The 47-year-old woman said that a stranger pulled over in his car and offered her a ride but started accelerating once she tried to get out.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A woman is recovering after jumping out of a car to escape her alleged kidnapper, who has been arrested, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

On May 31 around 1:39 a.m., officers responded to a report about a woman screaming and running from a man in the area of Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street. When they arrived, they found the woman hiding in a driveway, PPB said.

The 47-year-old woman, who has not been identified, said that a stranger pulled over in his car near Southeast 146th Avenue and Southeast Division Street, and then offered her a ride home.

When they arrived at Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Division Street, the woman opened her car door to get out, but the suspect, 25-year-old Ra Fet, accelerated. The woman fought Fet, who kept driving and punched her in the face, police said.

The woman, however, was able to jump out of the car at Southeast 112th Avenue and Southeast Lincoln Street. Though injured, she was able to run away.

KGW obtained surveillance video of the victim knocking on a neighbor's door near where she jumped out. The video shows her on the phone with 911 dispatchers while banging on the door for help. She appeared to have bloody knees and blood on her hand.

Surveillance video obtained by KGW shows a woman knocking on a home, begging for help. She said a stranger who offered her a ride home kidnapped her.

The owner of the surveillance video did not want to do an on-camera interview with KGW. But did share that he's unfortunately not surprised by the news — adding, that that stretch of road had received quite the reputation these last few years.

Fet then fled the area, and at 2:21 a.m., an officer spotted him in his car at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Beech Street and arrested him. Fet was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault, coercion, menacing, fourth-degree assault, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.

The woman was treated at the scene for cuts and bruises, police said.

On Monday, Fet had his first court appearance where he pled not guilty. He's scheduled back in court on June 11.
