PORTLAND, Ore. — A woman was killed, and a man was hospitalized following a shooting in Portland's Hazelwood neighborhood early Saturday morning. Police have booked the man into custody.
Around 2:06 a.m., police officers responded to a report of a shooting inside an apartment along Northeast 146th Avenue. The police officers found a woman dead when they arrived. A 33-year-old man, Michael J. English of Portland, was taken to Oregon Health and Science University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Portland police.
While at the hospital, around 9:45 a.m., English fled after being allowed to change clothes in private. PPB launched a search, bringing in the Air Support Unit, the drone unit and K9 unit; OHSU Police and VA Hospital Police also assisted.
Less than two hours later, just before 11:00 a.m., VA Police located and arrested English, who was later booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He faces first-degree manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm charges.
The woman who was killed has been identified as 40-year-old Angel Geib. The medical examiner determined her cause of death was via gunshot wound.
The Portland Police Homicide Unit is investigating. During the investigation, police closed Northeast 146th Avenue between East Burnside Street and Northeast Everett Street.
