West Seattle women come forward after series of alleged harassment cases

Seattle Police are investigating a series of lewd and intimidating alleged harassment cases after multiple complaints from women in West Seattle.

SEATTLE — "I feel really scared for the women in my community," said Gabby, who asked that her last name not be used.

Gabby said she was walking up 35th Ave Southwest in December when security video caught a man in a truck approaching and screaming vulgar threats out the window.

"Man you'd be fun to and then [used a] sexually explicit term," she recalled.

Almost a year and a half before this, her friend Ashley had a similar interaction. It was also caught on camera. The driver appears to be slowing down and watching her before yelling other expletives.

"He turns around, comes back and makes a big show of having his phone out the window like he's recording me and says, 'I'm going to ********** that," said Ashley.

"That's when we were like, okay, there's no way that we are the only two people that this has happened to," said Ashley.

They posted what happened on social media and more than 20 women responded that the same thing had happened to them by a man in a similar truck. Gabby and Ashley pinpointed every location on a map.

"It feels like you are a target just for who you are," said Gabby.

The Seattle Police Department confirmed it had received two reports with similar circumstances and is investigating these potential harassment incidents to determine if they are connected.

"It feels like harassment. I'm fearful for my safety; other people are fearful for their safety," said Ashley.

Now, they hope this man is caught. "When you feel safe, you feel free to move around in your community and go about your normal routines and hobbies and it robs you of that," said Ashley.
