TIGARD, Ore. — The Tigard Police Department launched a homicide investigation Monday evening after finding a man shot to death in a car parked outside of the Washington Square mall, according to an initial statement from the agency.
On Thursday, police identified the man as 29-year-old Ediel Ernesto Apodaca-Sandoval from the Salem area in a news release.
Someone called police shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Monday after finding Apodaca-Sandoval "slumped over inside a parked car" in the mall parking lot. The caller reported hearing a series of "pops" a few minutes before the discovery.
Responding officers and medical staff were able to confirm that the man inside the car had been shot to death.
Police taped off the area as a crime scene while investigators began looking into the circumstances of the shooting. According to Tigard police, detectives believe that the victim had been targeted and it was not a random attack. Investigators don't believe there is any ongoing threat to the general public.
Detectives are still working to gather surveillance video from the area and additional evidence.
This is a developing story and may be updated with more details as they emerge.
