TIGARD, Ore — The Tigard Police Department (TPD) is seeking additional victims of a man who is suspected of sexually abusing women along a trail at Cook Family Park in Tigard within a span of two days.
The man, identified as 29-year-old Jhonatan Temprana-Olivares of Tualatin, approached three women at Cook Family Park and grabbed one of them before running away, then was quickly arrested.
Investigators believe there may be other potential victims and are asking them to come forward.
"Fortunately, this doesn’t happen that often," said Kelsey Anderson, the public information officer with the Tigard Police Department. "We don’t know what the intent was — and so it is fortunate that we were able to arrest him quickly and that nobody was hurt. But it is always a good reminder for anyone using the trail system, or using the parks, just be aware of your surroundings."
Police said all three incidents took place on the trail near the volleyball court at Cook Family Park that connects the park to the neighborhoods on Tualatin Road.
On Aug. 12 at around 7:30 a.m., a woman reported while she was running on the trail leading to Cook Park, she passed Temprana-Olivares, who was approaching her on the trail. She said she heard a noise and turned around, where she found Temprana-Olivares directly behind her. She pushed him away and yelled; she said Temprana-Olivares asked for the time.
Later that day at around 12:30 p.m., a second woman also reported being assaulted by Temprana-Olivares, whom she did not know, in the same area as the previous incident. She said she was walking on the path when Temprana-Olivares came up behind her and grabbed her rear end with both hands. When she turned around, Temprana-Olivares already took off, running towards the woods.
Not too long after, responding officers found and arrested Temprana-Olivares, who was taken to jail and faces charges of sex abuse III and harassment, according to the TPD.
A third woman came forward on Tuesday, reporting a similar incident also involving Temprana-Olivares. She said she was on the same trail at around 8:30 a.m. Monday walking her dog when a man with the same description believed to be Temprana-Olivares asked her for the time and started petting her dog. The woman began to walk away, but her dog stopped, causing her to turn around. She said Temprana-Olivares followed her and was directly behind her, then stated, “You’re very handsome,” and asked if she was single. The woman yelled at him and went to the closest neighborhood, according to Tigard police.
Anyone who recognizes or had a similar encounter with Temprana-Olivares is asked to call the non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 to talk to an officer or email tips@tigard-or.gov.
