PORTLAND, Oregon — A man will spend 20 years in prison for shooting and killing a man in 2022 after an argument over a parking space in Southeast Portland.
A Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge sentenced Teddy Wayne Hall, Sr. to 240 months, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office announced on Tuesday. The sentencing came after Hall pled guilty to several charges including first-degree manslaughter.
On Nov. 23, 2022, police officers responded to a shooting at the Cora Park Apartments on Southeast 37th Avenue. The officers found a man, identified as Raja McCallister, with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders tried to give him medical aid, but he died. Multiple witnesses said Hall had been arguing with McCallister about parking spaces, and that Hall pulled out a gun and shot at McCallister four times, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office said. McCallister lived in the apartments and Hall was a boyfriend of another resident.
Video of the incident shows Hall, his girlfriend and McCallister arguing in the parking lot before Hall pulls out a gun and fires at McCallister, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office said. The camera was dropped, but the video recorded the sound of three more shots. The Portland Police Bureau has not released video of the incident to the public.
Police officers took Hall into custody a few hours after the shooting. Hall later told law enforcement that he felt threatened and shot McCallister. In a news release, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office noted that McCallister didn't have any weapons, didn't threaten Hall or physically assault him.
On Nov. 25, 2024, Hall pled guilty to manslaughter in the first degree, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.
