PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police announced Thursday that a suspicious death in Portland's Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood has been officially ruled a homicide. The investigation began after workers found a body on Dec. 19.
A Portland Police Bureau news release identified the victim as 39-year-old Darnell D'Shawn Davis and said the county medical examiner had determined that his manner of death was "homicidal violence." The news release did not specify a more precise cause of death.
PPB initially announced that Central Precinct officers had been called to the intersection of Southeast Linn Street and Southeast 19th Avenue at the southern end of the Sellwood-Moreland neighborhood at 1:51 p.m. on Dec. 19 after people working in the area discovered the body of a deceased adult male.
The homicide unit responded to investigate due to suspicious circumstances at the scene, police said, but did not initially label the case as a homicide due to the need to conduct a full autopsy.
The investigation is still active, police said, and anyone with information about the case or the incident is asked to reach out to Detective Jeff Sharp at Jeff.Sharp@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-9773 or Detective JD McGuire at Jeff.McGuire@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 23-326692.
